One of the most inspiring and dynamic early musicians today, viola da gambist Shaun Ng has established himself as a performer of great depth, virtuosity and technical brilliance. Lauded by both critics and audiences, he has performed throughout Britain, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Singapore.
After gaining a scholarship in 1998, Shaun moved to Europe to study the viola da gamba with many of the best practitioners of early music. Over the years, his teachers include José Vázquez (Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Vienna), Richard Boothby and Lucy Robinson (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama), Mieneke van der Velden (Amsterdam Conservatory) and Philippe Pierlot (Royal Conservatory in the Hague). He is in great demand as a solo performer and appears regularly with his ensemble Musica Obscura (Singapore), as well as other ensembles.
In 2004, Shaun Ng left Europe to relocate in Perth, Western Australia. He now commutes from his Australian base to other parts of the world, bringing his viol wherever he goes.
