Chris has been active in the Jazz community since he began his performance degree at WAAPA in 2000. Since completing the Jazz course in ‘03 Chris has performed with internationally acclaimed artists Terrell Stafford, Ronald Carter, Frank Foster, Ed Partyka, Ernest Ranglan, Ian Hendrickson-Smith and Dave Guy from (Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings) James Morrison, Don Burrows, and Graeme Lyall amongst other acclaimed Perth Jazz musicians. Chris has held residences at many of Perth’s popular live music venues such as The Moon Café, The Subiaco Hotel, The Universal Bar, Grapeskin, Onyx, The Mussel Bar and more recently Must Winebar.
In 2006 Chris participated in the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra’s performance at the International Association of Jazz Educators conference in New York. After the tour he remained in New York for several weeks to gain inspiration to write and perform his own original works.
Chris balances teaching and performing commitments with writing and recording for his original bands. In February 07 Chris featured on Catherine Noblet’s debut album ‘Neu Impressions’ released at the PJS on April 23rd with great success. Chris is member of the Johannes Luebbers Dectet and performed on their debut album “Make Some Noise” released in April ‘09 Chris also featured on the WAMI award winning track “’Till Death” from the album.
Along with writing original jazz compositions Chris has been focussing a great deal of creative efforts on a Hip Hop project led by Scott “Optamus” Griffiths from local Hip-Hop Group “Downsyde” With ‘Optamus’ Chris has played alongside Adelaide Hip Hop Group ‘The Funkoars”, Perth MC “Drapht” and Ghostface from Legendary US Hip Hop group Wu-Tang Clan. Optamus is preparing to release his debut solo album co-produced by Chris in late 2009
Chris plans on releasing his debut Jazz Trio Album in early 2010 with original compositions inspired by the music of Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen and Robert Glasper.Book This Performer
