Alex Boyd was born and raised in Perth W.A and attended Churchlands Senior High School on a music scholarship studying saxophone followed by some study at WAAPA and University of Western Australia.
He was a member of both the WA Youth Concert Band and WA Youth Jazz Orchestra in the late 1980’s. In 1990 he joined the Australian Army Band Corp and had postings to Wagga Wagga, in central NSW, and Melbourne over a 5 year period. The bands toured extensively throughout NSW and Victoria, and performed with artists including Simon Gallagher, Chelsea Brown, Barry Crocker and Larry Adler.
Returning to Perth in 1995 he taught at Penrhos College before commencing as a fulltime woodwind tutor at Wesley College where he is still working. He also works as a freelance musician and has recently performed with the WA Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and local jazz group the Hip Mo’ Toast Big Band.Book This Performer
