Andre Bourgault was born in Perth and began playing the guitar from an early age. He studied classical guitar and trombone during his schooling and was a valued member of the Churchlands S.H.S. special music program. He studied jazz guitar at WAAPA before graduating in 1998 with a Bmus (Jazz) majoring in Composition under the tuition of Graham Lyall.
He was the guitarist in West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra’s “Composers Orchestra” for a total of 6 years and was the 2001 WAYJO scholarship winner. Whilst a member of this band he wrote original jazz compositions and commissions that have been performed at the Manly International Jazz Festival, Fox Studios during the Sydney Olympic Arts Festival in 2000 and throughout WA. Two of his compositions appear on the WAYJO double compact disc “WAYJO Live”.
Since graduating Andre has worked as a freelance musician performing in various musical settings including classical, jazz/contemporary groups and numerous musicals. He has shared the stage with Ernie Watts, James Morrison, Frank Foster, Don Burrows, John Hoffman, Rolf Harris and Darrly Somers. He is a versatile guitarist who enjoys playing a large range of musical styles.
