Sarah Ellison

Sarah is currently a freelance musician, having completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) degree at the University of Western Australia.

In 1995, she auditioned successfully and received a music scholarship to Perth Modern Senior High School, subsequently gaining a place in the specialised music program. She has also received the Stabb Scholarship in 1999 (in her final year at high school) that was awarded for the best string player in the music program.

Sarah has travelled to Japan with the Western Australia Youth Orchestra and to Europe as concert master of the Perth Modern Symphony Orchestra. On the Europe tour, the orchestra participated in the Vienna International Music Festival, competing with many school groups from around the world. Sarah also sang in the school choir that was awarded first place in the festival.

As a freelance musician, she has played with many orchestras and chamber groups around Perth including the Elandra Ensemble, concert in Government House with members of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Collegium Symphonic Chorus.

She was the first violinist and a founding member of the Julinka String Quartet, which formed in 2002. During this time, they were selected to play in venues around Perth, played in the UWA lunchtime concert series, Blackwood Chamber Music Festival in Bridgetown, were chosen to take part in the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville. As a quartet, they have played and received coaching from the Australian String Quartet and many national and international artists. In the same year, they also won the Flora Bunning Memorial Prize for the most outstanding chamber group at the University of Western Australia.

2004 saw her completing her music degree at UWA and performing around Perth, both as a chamber and orchestral musician.
