Catherine Ashley

Catherine Ashley has performed extensively as a pianist and harpist in various ensembles and as a soloist over the last ten years.

At fifteen years old Catherine was invited to be the official accompanist for Gondwana Voices’ international tour and in 2008 was one of six pianists to perform George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the WA Charity Orchestra at the Perth Concert Hall.

Recently she has performed as a harpist with the WA Youth Orchestra, WA Charity Orchestra, Australian Doctors’ Orchestra and WA Symphony Orchestra, and in 2008 won the ECKO Investments Chamber Music Award with flautist Therése Löwdin.

As an experienced accompanist, Catherine spent several years as a ballet pianist for the Royal Academy of Dance and has taught at various schools around Perth, currently teaching at the WA Music School.

Catherine is currently studying a Bachelor of Music at WAAPA (Harp) under the direction of Anthony Maydwell, and has so far performed in the Faith Court Orchestra, operas A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Crucible and Dialogues of the Carmelites, the musical theatre production Oklahoma!, and recently recorded John Cage’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra for the ABC with Resonator , WAAPA’s new music ensemble.

In 2009 she gave her first solo recital at the Darlington Town Hall, premiering a new work (3 to 81 With Temporally Obstreperous Interpolations of the Root Surrogate) by Angus Barnacle, and in November will be performing as a harpist in Deckchair Theatre’s one act play Refractions by Damon Lockwood.
